I wasn't the same man. That place took our memories from us, including all memories of a life before here. For me that meant taking away everything from my past. For better or worse. It had married me to my partner, we had a medical practice, and had us adopt a son. When it fell apart I got all the old memories back.

[Other Bavan wasn't real, so talking about the life there doesn't feel wrong.]

So I've been told. I almost regret that I didn't experience it for myself, if only so that I could help relate better to the circumstances.

Oh, he was already doing it himself. [He inspects his claws. Serene.] It's difficult to get proper leverage for going through bone that way, though. I just helped him along.

... Okay, normally I would ask why this boy was already doing this to himself, but I feel like we may be getting off topic the further we continue down this road.

I can't say that you're alone in that regard: most people don't want others knowing too much about them, truth be told.

Even so, do you mind if I ask what your reasons are for that?

Because I know they won't like what they find when they do. Even if they don't balk at the overall... Sharpness of me, they don't like finding that it's deliberate to keep people from finding out the rest.
