[There's no response, even after nearly an hour and a half has gone by.
Killing a person, figuring out what to do with the body after it decided to turn into crystal for some fucking reason, and then remembering the dead man's communicator in your pocket takes a while. He had seen Kogami's name flicker across the screen earlier when it had fallen out of Jyuto's pockets, but hadn't thought to check and see what it was Kogami had been texting Jyuto, and now he finally opens the message to see what it said.
So the person he killed was a friend of Kogami's, it seems. Or at least good enough acquaintances that they made dinner plans occasionally. If there's any amount of guilt he feels here, it's that a part of him actually likes Kogami enough that it's a shame to imagine that Kogami likely had to have dinner alone since having his message go unanswered.
Danny doesn't plan on texting anything back, willing to let Kogami think he's been stood up as he starts to scroll a little through their past conversations with some amount of curiosity... unless Kogami tries to text again, which could be the case since Danny doesn't know that people can tell when a message has been "read" even if not responded to. Would you believe that Danny didn't really use a cellphone that often until he got here.]
[ ...interesting. kogami's not clingy, he'd just thought that jyuto would be busy, even if it's entirely out of character for the other man not to text him back, even if it's to tell him that he's occupied.
[No, he is not okay, in fact Danny is the complete opposite of "okay" as he very nearly drops the phone when another text suddenly comes through.
He's had enough time to glance through a couple past text messages and see that Kogami might be suspicious if he continues to ignore him, so after a moment of thinking over what to say, this is what Kogami gets back:]
I'm sorry, I was dealing with a new case that just came up.
I'm fine though, I apologize for worrying you, and for not being able to make dinner plans tonight.
[That sounds... legit, right? Or at least it seems like it wouldn't be the first time police work has gotten in the way of spending time together, if some of their past texts were anything to go by.]
[ it's perfectly jyuto -- down to every punctuation, every polite apology. danny is excellent at getting it right, but kogami can't quell the unsettling unease, the sort of dread without any reason behind it.
something's wrong, he just doesn't know what it is. ]
It's all right. There's always next time. Are you sure you're okay?
[... What the fuck is tarantula egg stir-fry? Also, is Jyuto more popular than he realized? That's two texts now of people asking if he's eaten dinner yet.
Either way, Danny's going to let this one go unanswered for now to see if they'll bother texting back like Kogami did, or decide that Jyuto must be too busy to talk.]
[ Riou doesn't text back for a while, assuming he's already busy. Except then he doesn't hear him coming home? So later than night he sends another text, if only because Jyuto essentially never leaves his texts unanswered for too long. ]
Is everything OK at work?
[ Jyuto has a dangerous job, Riou will come back him up if he needs it. ]
Iruma-san, I hope you're doing well. Pardon my forwardness, but I hadn't anyone that was able to explain when I asked them this, (They end up laughing a lot and calling me cute... (๑◕︵◕๑) ) One of the customers at the shop has been talking to me every time he visits And he said he was "going to put me on speed dial for a booty call" So I said I'd help? I'm assuming he means searching for treasure? I've read about pirates on the sea! I just don't understand why my colleagues keep saying I'm bold and cute for accepting Treasure hunting isn't so bad!
blasts taylor swift's look what you made me do from the rooftops
[ This is coming from someone who only just started to open up to her friends, let her live.
She blinks when she's left on read though, but she assumes Jyuto is busy with work. So she sends a message an hour later. ]
I asked them again! They're still laughing and saying I'm adorable, But I really don't get it... One of them said not to go without protection. I feel a bit silly, it's like they're all in on something I'm not. I hope work isn't being too troublesome? I was going to make rice balls today, if you wanted any!
you're welcome. also Danny is still being rude and pretending to not be here.
[eventually danny is going to figure out that people can tell when you've read their text even if it's not responded too, but cellphone illiteracy still wins the day for now]
[ Riou's thought a lot about this. It's been some time since he found out what happened to Jyuto, but since Jyuto isn't aware that the anonymous hacker he's been talking to is Riou, he can't openly threaten the man. Riou isn't supposed to know, because Jyuto doesn't know that he told Riou. Jyuto needed someone else.
But "Solon" isn't just the name that Riou gave to anonymously offer his services to Jyuto, only doing so because he thought it would be fun to surprise Jyuto. It's also his call sign from the Navy, in which he was a Sergeant and a special ops sniper known for being cold-blooded, unhesitating. Merciless past a single warning.
And so, after much thought, he's decided to make certain that Danny doesn't get any bright ideas about finding ways to cross Jyuto without ruining himself. For this reason, Riou is on top of a building, far enough out of sight that you would have to look through a sniper scope to get a good view of him.
Which is what he's doing to Danny right now. Once he finds him, he gets out his phone and sends a single text: ]
Left upper arm.
[ He'll give him a moment to think about what such an ominous text means. And while he does, he'll start setting up his shot. ]
[Funny story, Danny was actually a fucking novice at using a cellphone before he ended up here in this world, and while there are still some things he's getting used to (like how people can tell if you've left them on "read only" for example), it doesn't take him too long to get his phone out and open it here when he hears the ping indicating a notification.
... And then proceeds to stare at the text in confusion, because there's no name attached to whoever sent it, as well as being a rather random one to suddenly get. Did he get this by mistake? What does "left upper arm" mean... unless someone is trying to tell him that he should be looking at his own left arm for some reason? Did he spill something on his coat without noticing, or...
Riou will likely see Danny in his scope turn his head a little to look at his left shoulder and arm, even turning his left hand over checking to see if there's anything particularly off. And thus, making the mistake of not even looking in a potential direction of where a sniper might be.]
[ Riou waits patiently for him to get out his phone, watching silently through the scope. He wants to make sure he's read it before he takes his shot.
It's important, because he wants the person to know that he didn't miss. This wasn't an assassination attempt, this was a warning.
When he turns his head to look at his left arm, Riou takes the shot. It only takes one, and he hits exactly where he intended to: Danny's left upper arm. He can't stay where he is, since it is still a gunshot and someone will have heard it. And so, he doesn't stick around to watch. He has to quickly disassemble and re-hide his rifle parts in an inconspicuous gym duffle and head to the gym. Alibis are important. Danny won't be paying attention to his phone now anyway, he'll likely be heading to a hospital, so there's no point in rushing the next message. That will come later. ]
"likely be heading to a hospital" more like "hiding in an alley like a paranoid idiot"
[Danny hears the gunshot, of course, feels the sting of bullet connecting with flesh, but for the first few seconds, for a moment it's that temporary state of shock, not quite sure of what just happened. He sees the blood pouring from the wound and down his arm, staining his coat and dripping onto the ground near where his phone has landed; he must have dropped it when he had been struck and hadn't noticed until now. He can distantly hear a person shouting somewhere far in the distance, wondering where that noise came from or which direction the gunshot had been aimed at.
And that, of all things is what triggers Danny's awareness of the situation to speed up and hit him seconds before the actual pain from the fact that he's been fucking shot. He quickly brings a hand up to the wound, presses hard against it to try to keep the blood in there where it belongs, but that's not going to last long, he knows. He quickly looks around--no people around to see him standing here, but there will probably be someone heading this way sooner or later looking for the source of that gunshot heard, but instead of staying still, he starts to run away, only remembering to pick his phone up off the ground at the last second before he can make the mistake of leaving it behind.
He ducks into an alley, sheds his coat and folds it one-handed to hold against the wound so that he doesn't potentially bleed out here. He breathes hard, listening for any more potential gunshots coming--maybe he should have stayed put, but the risk of being shot again had already sent his feet running to hide here. He really should call for an ambulance to come get him, but instead his phone, slippery in his hands with his blood, pulls up his list of contacts as he starts slowly begins pulling himself along in what he hopes is a far enough direction away from the shooter.
For a brief second, his thumb hovers over the name, second-guessing himself on whether it's really a good idea to ask for his help (he is at least sane enough to know he probably can't patch a bullet injury himself, especially if he might need to remove said bullet if it's still in his arm somewhere), but then his grip on the phone slips and the name is selected, already sending the call--]
[ At this point, Luca manages to make it to his appointments on time and even remembers where the doctor's office is. Good progress, perhaps, but that's the furthest thing on Luca's mind for today's session.
He's already settled down in his chair with a cup of tea he's barely touched... And he's kind of... Staring off into space a little? His bad eye seems to be nearly closed, with how heavy his lids are today. ]
... I think I might try keeping a journal as well, though I do still try to stay on top of my personal notes... Maybe they're the same... No, maybe not. The notes only have what seems important, not things like minor events and dreams...
[ He pauses mid ramble, having reminded himself of something. ]Speaking of those, do healthy people usually have an easier time remembering dreams?
[Danny had been mostly quiet up until now, making notes on his clipboard here at some things Luca says, but otherwise not interrupting. After... the kind of shenanigans that happens in Lunatia at the end of every month, he always tends to be kind of spacey himself during the Sanguis period, more content to let other people do most of the talking in these sessions.
At the question, Danny pauses in his note-taking to consider it.]
Well, it's actually a bit of the opposite, as it's a matter of how much you are able to sleep without waking up during the REM cycle. Often, being abruptly woken up or keeping an irregular sleep schedules can result in recalling your dream easier. Otherwise, the neurochemical conditions of the brain that are active during the dreaming phase may cause the content of your dream to be blocked from being stored in the hippocampus--the memory storage of the brain--if left uninterrupted.
For example... some people find they can recall their dreams if they were suddenly woken up by an alarm clock rather than waking up naturally on their own, or because of a biological need to eat or use the bathroom. Or even having the chemicals disrupted due to sleep apnea or alcohol intake, though that I don't recommend doing to try to force waking up to obtain dream recall.
[ He can't help but be fascinated by the modern understanding of science. The best way to learn about the world is to keep an open mind, after all...
But that's beside the point. ]
I don't plan on forcing myself to remember my dreams, but I keep thinking back to that nightmare incident a few days ago... I think I dreamt about... Either my father or completing my father's work? [ That's as much as he remembers now. ] Which is odd, considering I haven't given much thought to that man for quite some time now.
[Danny says, considering it for a moment. Not the nightmare incident exactly, because it would probably be best for Danny to not say anything about it where he's personally concerned, but in regards to the dream Luca had here.]
Do you think it's related at all with your memory loss? Come to think of it... were you able to remember him all that way before the recent incident occurred?
[Grimm has been hungry. So very hungry, and not even consuming flames has helped. (Danny has absolutely caught him getting a munch from the stovetop.) So he doesn't think twice about helping himself to some candy when he finds it.
It helps, in that he's now hungry for something else.]
My beloved.
[Hope Danny wasn't busy doing anything, because Grimm is draping himself over Danny's shoulders and kissing his neck. Nothing too out of character, he's always the affectionate type.]
[Danny has indeed caught Grimm doing that, and honestly found it really funny to be honest. But now he's having ignored his own hunger by instead reading a book to take his mind off things.
Granted, it's one about eyes to the surprise of fucking no one, but it's definitely not as interesting as having Grimm suddenly draping over his shoulders, kissing at his neck.]
My, someone's in a good mood.
[So far, it seems that Danny is truly none the wiser to what's going on with Grimm here, simply happy to enjoy the attention...]
[Well that was unexpected, but... kind of enjoyable, so he leans back a bit into the touch. Since it didn't involve teeth breaking flesh, he still has no reason to suspect something being wrong just yet...]
I meant that you're more welcome to join me here, though I suspect I'll need to put my book down here soon.
